Park Royal

After the wealthy Guiness family had bought and developed the British Properties and created a much needed link to Vancouver with Lions Gate Bridge in the 1930’s, they had come to the final phase of their development plan.

The Guiness family felt that the addition of a shopping center would increase the desirability of living in West Vancouver and would provide much needed local services. The head of the Guiness Family, Lord Iveagh, named the shopping mall after an area in London in which one of the Family breweries was located. the Guiness family has a brewery. Park Royal's construction was completed in 1950, a time at which the shopping mall was given the distinction of Being Canada’s first.
